The Presidential Room at Roma Ostiense was conceived as an integral part of the new railway hub designed by FS architect Roberto Narducci for the 1942 World’s Fair. The monumental entrance to the station is characterized by a grand bas-relief depicting Pegasus and Bellerophon, and by mosaics on the floor of the portico in front, which represent a true historical journey—from the legendary birth of the city of Rome to the city of the Popes and the exaltation of the Genio Italico (Italian Genius).
The latest mosaic decorations, made of irregularly shaped white and black ceramic tiles, are found inside a reserved space designed for the waiting of distinguished figures: the Presidential Room. This long parallelepiped room is covered in Persichino marble from Maremma, with floors made of various types of marble, including Rosso Rubino, Nero Italia, and Silvabella. The space is distinguished by a majestic Carrara marble statue representing the Goddess Roma, as well as a large tapestry made of grass juice.
