Royal Room – Reggio Calabria Centrale
The
Reggio Calabria Centrale station, inaugurated on
April 18, 1938, is the result of design projects made by architect and engineer
Angiolo Mazzoni. The passenger building appears as a low, elongated single body, marked by a series of sections in
monzonite: a solution already tested in other railway contexts, such as the stations of
Montecatini and
Trento. A waiting room for authorities was planned, which, like the other interior spaces, reflects Mazzoni’s usual attention to details: from the sober yet varied use of distinct coverings, such as
green Delianuova,
prasinite, and
Peraluman aluminum, to the refined lighting fixtures. The seating in the waiting room is covered in
green leather, facing a
softly curved marble table.
