Napoli Mergellina

Presidential Room - Napoli Mergellina

The station, originally named "Chiaia," began service on September 20, 1925, and only acquired the current name "Napoli Mergellina" two years later, with the inauguration of the new passenger building. This monumental structure combines the Liberty influences of the external façade with the modern glass-concrete vault, which brings abundant light into the interior spaces.

Napoli Mergellina was designed as the terminal station for the new Direttissima Roma-Formia-Napoli line and was located on one of the city's major thoroughfares, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, not far from the emerging middle-class neighborhood of Vomero.

The importance of Mergellina is also highlighted by the presence of a small waiting room reserved for important personalities, now known as the Presidential Room: 33 square meters featuring a Palladian floor, solid wood furniture, and a majestic chandelier from the Royal Palace of Caserta.
